Distressed Operations, Turnarounds, & Restructurings

For a publicly traded Electric Vehicle (EV) startup:

  • Led the asset liquidation strategy in service of a Chapter 11 Plan of Liquidation, including negotiating and executing a ~$50 million sale of remaining assets.
  • Supplied expert testimony in support of objecting to conversion of Chapter 11 cases to Chapter 7 cases, allowing more constructive solutions for creditors, employees, and vehicle owners.
  • Reported directly to the Chief Restructuring Officer to drive all domestic and international operating initiatives including workforce management, real estate rationalization, software updates, and international and domestic logistics.
  • Efforts led to confirmation and emergence from Chapter 11 Plan of Liquidation.


For a $1.5 billion health maintenance organization: 

  • Reported directly to Interim CEO, CFO, and COO to drive comprehensive strategic repositioning
  • Built business case for $20 million YoY operating expense turnaround comprised of: tuck-in to parent corporate entity to reduce administrative inefficiencies, hospital throughput improvement, and increased high-tech adoption
  • Reduced $400 million from a $1 billion 10-year capital plan by aligning capital expenditures to updated corporate strategy and advancing only mission-critical investments in dilapidated physical infrastructure

  

For an $800 million private equity-backed insurance company: 

  • Delivered key operational initiatives in a distressed situation, including workforce reductions, capital raises, cash flow management (13-week cash flow development), and crisis communications/leadership across company management, legal, and financial sponsors


For a $4.5 billion healthcare company: 

  • Led value creation/turnaround plan financial modeling for five-year enterprise turnaround with targeted $400 million in profit improvement
  • Analyzed all income statement drivers to tie operational improvements to revenue and expense bases
  • Quantified turnaround initiatives with operational leaders and integrated into five-year profitability model


For a $50 million international chain of retail fitness centers:

  • Reported directly to Chief Restructuring & Deputy Chief Restructuring Officer to advise distressed company on short-term liquidity actions and longer-term prospects for financial viability
  • Developed and updated rolling thirteen-week cash flow model
  • Partnered with investment banking team to develop multi-scenario five-year profitability forecast model to support sale process


Corporate Finance & Liquidity Enhancement

For a $400 million private equity- backed family of outdoor sports brands, drove comprehensive improvement of thirteen-week cash flow analysis, including:

  • Built fully integrated cash flow model including receipts, operating disbursements, and financing disbursements using disparate data sources and modeling key assumptions
  • Created borrowing base reporting template to track gross asset bases, ineligible amounts, and net availability based on advance rates and reserve requirements
  • Revised liquidity forecasting led to discovery of upcoming cash crisis, previously unidentified by the client; advised on operational improvements (shortening accounts receivable cycles, renegotiating vendor payment plans), potential debt restructurings, and required sponsor equity contributions

Mergers & Acquisitions

Certified Financial Modeling & Valuations Analyst (Corporate Finance Institute)

For a “Big 3” Tech Firm

  • Conducted financial due diligence and investment recommendations for joint ventures in emerging technology across rural United States, South America, and Africa
  • Assessed investment targets with key three statement analyses: net income waterfalls; EBITDA margin analysis; liquidity and debt service; IRR projections based on revenue sharing agreements
  • Provided go/no-go recommendations to maximize returns based on revenue sharing agreements

Lender Advisory

For a preeminent commercial bank with term loans and revolving credit facilities outstanding with a private equity-backed $120 million recreational products company

  • Reviewed debtor performance and forecasts to advise lender on upcoming liquidity challenges that jeopardized capital preservation and necessitated significant operational improvements and potential debt restructurings (in or out of bankruptcy court).
  • Brokered a sale of the senior creditors' term and revolving loans to a private credit fund, which allowed for a deleveraging of the business and material loss mitigation for senior creditors compared to a liquidation of the business.

Growth Strategy, Program Management, Process Enhancement, & Digital Transformation

For a $500 million healthcare company:

  • Led proprietary technology commercialization assessment that will result in over $5 million incremental revenue over a 4-year contract period, compared to client's original strategy

  

For an $8 billion multi-state health system: 

  •  Drove the development of a governance system for enterprise-wide “digital front door” consumer engagement platform for patients to book visits, review records, and pay bills online 


For a globally preeminent philanthropic & research organization:

  • Remediated a distressed multimillion research program to stabilize grant funding and research outcomes for a global health project across US, Europe, Africa, & Asia 


For a Fortune 10 healthcare organization with over $100 billion in revenue: 

  • Advised customer service organization on how to streamline operations to decrease turnaround time and improve customer satisfaction 


For a major municipal government: 

  • Executed finance department transformation for IT and other shared services to improve budgeting, funding requests and expense allocations, accounting, and auditing performance
